2014 Golden Snake X Wicked Delight

4 year old Chestnut Gelding

Sire: Golden Snake Dam: Wicked Delight

Trainer's Name: Matt Cumani

GOLDEN SNAKE - WICKED DELIGHT Gelding (Super Vobis qualified)

GOLDEN SNAKE was one of the most prolific G1 European gallopers of his time, recording four victories at the elite level, proving himself adept over a variety of distances. Crowned Champion French Middle distance galloper, GOLDEN SNAKE retired with a Timeform rating of 126.

Successful in the G1 Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly as a 3YO, GOLDEN SNAKE returned as a 4YO to take the G1 Preis von Europa at Cologne before winning the G1 Gran Premio del Jockey Club Italiano in Milan. He then raced on to win the G1 Prix Ganay as a 5YO at Longchamp before he finished a neck second to FANTASTIC LIGHT in the G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup at The Curragh. Jockey Pat Eddery, who partnered GOLDEN SNAKE in all starts, said “GOLDEN SNAKE showed plenty of speed to win the Prix Ganay, he has a wonderful temperament and he is a brave, genuine horse.”

A son of Northern Dancer's breed-shaping son DANZIG and the G1 mare DUBIAN (also dam of five x G1 winner SAYYEDATI) from the prolific Lady Josephine family (the same one that produced the Eight Carat dynasty and famous stallions such as NASRULLAH, MAHMOUD, FAIR TRIAL, ROYAL CHARGER and TUDOR MINSTREL). GOLDEN SNAKE has never served big books but has proven himself a reliable source of smart winners.

The sire of G1 winners in both hemispheres – locally, the ill-fated Western Australian Horse of The Year `GILDED VENOM’ and, in Europe, the high-class mare Quiza Quiza Quiza - Golden Snake has been represented by 155 winners from just 270 starters.

He is also the sire of tough Stakes Winners Hissing Sid (winner of consecutive Warrnambool Cups), Super Gold, Vipera Gold and Antidotes as well as four Stakes placegetters and 24 Metropolitan winners.

One of his most talented daughters - one who, due to bad luck, did not reach her full potential - is Gold Heist, a 3/4 sister to this exciting young horse. A Metropolitan winner as a 3YO and held in high regard by her trainer, Gold Heist is one of three winners produced by FELONY, who is also dam of the tough 11-time-winning (3 Country Cups included) metropolitan-class galloper Lord Lucan who raced no less than 97 times with a further 20 placings on his resume.

This gelding’s grandam Felony is out of the Lunchtime mare Crumbs, dam of six winners from seven to race including the multiple city winner Ooshku whilst her dam Joy Pan, a 3/4 sister to G1 Perth Cup winner Runyon, produced seven winners from nine to race including the G3 mare Sister Shirley (in turn grandam of G2 galloper Vanquished) and Listed winner Mirth (dam of G2 winner Party Mood)... and she is also grandam of the G2 winner Potential Star and Listed winners Battle Law and Falcon Walk.

dam FELONY is out of the Lunchtime mare, CRUMBS, dam of six winners from seven to race including the multiple city winner Ooshku. CRUMBS’ dam JOY PAN, a 3/4 sister to G1 Perth Cup winner RUNYON, produced 7 winners from 9 to race including the G3 mare SISTER SHIRLEY (in turn grandam of G2 galloper VANQUISHED) and Listed winner Mirth (dam of G2 winner PARTY MOOD)... and she is also grandam of the G2 winner POTENTIAL STAR and Listed winners Battle Law and Falcon Walk.

This has been a strong black-type family for generations, its other members including the multiple G1 winners ZARITA, MARCEAU and ZASU, and the Group winners IL DON, MERRY MERRY RULER, AUREALIS, JOY LOVE, RUN LIKE THE WIND, JOY AND FUN, UPBEAT, BELLA MARTINI, HUMMA, WINK AND A NOD, TRACK JESTER and NIPS, Merry Ruler, Aurealis, Joy Love, Run Like The Wind, Joy And Fun, Upbeat, Bella Martini, Humma, Wink And A Nod, Track Jester and Nips - as well as the Australian Guineas winning high class stallion PINS and this year's G1 Blue Diamond Stakes hero WRITTEN BY.

Boasting an interesting pedigree with his sire and dam bred on the same Northern Dancer/High Hat cross, this gelding has as his dam sire LAGO DELIGHT, the fast Stakes-winning son of the influential ENCOSTA DE LAGO who, despite having just a handful of daughters at stud - boasts excellent broodmare sire statistics - 12 winners from just 19 runners including the G1 2YO PEGGY JEAN.

Buyers won’t have to wait long to get to the races with this impressive 3YO who has been well educated and given the time he needed to mature. He has really impressed his trainer Matt Cumani in his first educational preparation: “… he is a lovely big, striding horse who has the strength and scope to be a good Middle Distance / Staying type. He settled well into the routine here at our stables and he has shown a great attitude and done some very pleasing pieces of work on the bridle with his gallops. Next prep., we will be trialling him and if all goes well, we will be looking for his first race start. I really like him and look forward to progressing with him."
