2015 Fighting Sun X Quid Pro Quo

2015 Fighting Sun X Quid Pro Quo

2 year old Chestnut Colt

Sire: Fighting Sun Dam: Quid Pro Quo

Trainer's Name: MBH Racing

Athletic Colt by SUN STUD Freshman sire

FIGHTING SUN entered the racetrack with a huge degree of hype and delivered two knockout blows in two starts. Debuting with all his anticipated precocity in town, he then stamped himself as a serious G1 Golden Slipper candidate and pre-post favourite when waltzing clear of his rivals in the Listod Canonbury Stakes to score by a widening 3 lengths. In what was a travesty of the Sydney Autumn he then succumbed to injury, and with his value already soaring as a potential stallion option, was retired to Victoria’s highly respected Sun Stud.

Indeed, the Listed Canonbury Stakes has been the stepping stone for so many recent Champions and Champion Sires, including future G1 Golden Slipper Winner & Sire VANCOUVER (2015), highly rated sire HINCHINBROOK (2010), Widden’s dominating SEBRING (2008) and prolific speed influence NOT A SINGLE DOUBT (2003). FIGHTING SUN, equally, has all the credentials to impose himself on 2YO racing when his debut crop is launched in the upcoming 2017-2018 season.

The sire-line of FIGHTING SUN is laced with speed and class and G1 continuity. He is by deceased Champion Freshman Sire NORTHERN METEOR, sire of 252 winners (71% runners-winners ratio) including including 22 Stakes Winners and 13 Group Winners. Grandsire ENCOSTA DE LAGO was an equally prolific sire with 26 individual G1 winners including World Champion Sprinter CHATAUQUA.

The damline of FIGHTING SUN is equally regal. He is out of G1 South Australian Oaks Winner IRISH DARLING, a daughter of G1 Australian Derby Winner, IVORY’S IRISH.

This classy colt is the second live foal of winning mare QUID PRO QUO, a daughter of G1 Australian Derby victor CLANGALANG (Sire of 124 winners) from 4 time winning Kenny’s Best Pal mare CONCLUDING. She has a PERFECT Boodmare Record to date with 6 to race for 6 winners. Foremost amongst these is dual G3 winner & G1 Schweppes Oaks Runner-up MOMENT IN TIME, a $590,000 winning filly from the stable of Hall of Fame Trainer Lee Freedman. CONCLUDING is also the dam of dual Stakes Placed Condelago. Other winners include What’s in a Name (7 wins), the talented Hot Lover (5 wins) and Cyclone Thomas (3 wins).

The salient point here though is that the dam of this colt has already produced 2 STAKES PERFORMERS and forms part of a really solid family page which includes Group Winners CONBITUATE LADY, SAN SALVADOR, BALM IN GILEAD, THE MESSINA NYMPH and Champion 3YO & Older Male in Singapore WHY BE who recorded a remarkable 21 wins at sprint distances.

This colt has a pedigree with both equal measures of promise and proven class. His sireline is iron clad and his damline is a proven producer of stakes quality individuals. FIGHTING SUN was such a rare commodity and so freakishly talented that one would also expect his stocks as a sire, like his sire and grandsire, to quickly head north once his first runners hit the track post August 1 this year. It’s a family that also promises 2YO speed while also factoring in the potential of middle distance adaptability. And it’s also a family that boasts individuals of great strength and willpower.
