Mar 29, 2016
BEL ESPRIT is by the Champion Stallion ROYAL ACADEMY, the sire of an incredible 159 stakes winners. BEL ESPRIT was one of the best 2YOs of his generation, winning 5 of his 6 starts including the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes. Accompanying the MRC Blue Diamond Stakes [G1] on his racing resume are wins in the BTC Doomben 10000 [G1], VRC Maribyrnong Plate [G2], MRC Blue Diamond Prelude [G3], Blue Diamond Preview [G3], and MRC H.D.F. McNeil Stakes- G3 (1100m). BEL ESPRIT ran second in the VRC Newmarket Handicap [G1], MVRC Manikato Stakes [G1], MRC Caulfield Guineas [G1] and the Dubai Racing Club Cup [G1]. He finished his racing career with 8 wins and over $2m in prize money horses cementing himself as one of the best sprinters of his time.
At stud, BEL ESPRIT secured his place in the history books as the sire of International superstar BLACK CAVIAR, a badge that contributed to him earning the title of `Victorian Leading Sire by earnings and winners’ for 7 years running.
BEL ESPRIT is the sire of 2 further G1 performers in BEL MER (SAJC Robert Sangster S. [G1]) and the recently retired BEL SPRINTER (The Galaxy [G1]). BEL ESPRIT has also produced a couple of beauties going around at the minute - KEEN ARRAY, the Blue Sapphire Stakes [L] winner and G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes runner-up as well as SWEET SHERRY, a super impressive 2YO who is shooting for this year’s GOLDEN SLIPPER.
In all, BEL ESPRIT’s 787 individual runners have yielded a consistent 68% runners-winners ratio and the combined efforts of his progeny have seen BEL ESPRIT join the elite club of stallions siring over 100 individual winners in a racing year - for the for past 5 seasons. In simple terms, over 500 individual winners and progeny earnings in excess of $45 million.
This is the second foal for Viscount mare INGENIOUSLY, a city winner over 1600m. Only lightly raced, INGENIOUSLY was very talented, winning at Sandown before injuring herself in the G1 Vinery Stakes over 2000m at Rosehill. Trained by Peter Snowden for Darley, she was obviously well regarded in order for her to compete at the highest level. She is half sister to Tasmanian Oaks [L] runner-up Exchanges and is from the family of British 1000 Guineas [G1] winner CAPE VERDI.
This filly was born and raised at Tarcoola Stud, the Victorian Small Breeder of the Year 2011. For a small farm, they have produced some outstanding horses included G1 winners SACRED CHOICE and COSTA VIVA. They have also had some fine results with Bel Esprit with Group 3 winner VIVACIOUS SPIRIT and JWR's and Clanbrooke’s very own Spritely Girl who has now won 5 races.
BEL ESPRIT has shown he has the ability to sire a true champion. This is an outstanding quality to possess, yet his sire consistency is equally as impressive. Don’t miss out on an opportunity to own a filly from a stallion that will never cease to amaze us!
“Fillies who move well generally make good racehorses and this filly was a beautiful walker. She really extends her front legs and covers plenty go ground. Many of the Bel Esprits have ordinary front legs but this girl is very correct and tracks through evenly. This filly has plenty of length and scope to her and I think she will furnish into a lovely strong filly in time,” Jason Warren
