2009 Good Journey x Race The Heart 2 year old Chestnut Colt

2009 Good Journey x Race The Heart

                              2YO Gelding by Classy Miler

                        GOOD JOURNEY
**Gelding now broken in and having a break**

GOOD JOURNEY
, a son of NUREYEV (sire of 135 Stakes Winners and sire sons incl. THEATRICAL, PEINTRE CELEBRE STRAVINSKY and SPINNING WORLD to name a few), raced 16 times exclusively on turf, was unplaced on only one occasion and won 7 races, placing at a further 8 starts. Staking his claim with a win in the Woodbine Atto Mile [G1], GOOD JOURNEY went on to win 3 more races at G2 level. GOOD JOURNEY confirmed his world class miler status when he ran third in the G1 Breeders Cup Mile, passing the post ahead of runner-up ROCK OF GIBRALTER.

GOOD JOURNEY stood at Victoria's Ealing Park for 4 seasons between 2003 and 2006. From only 23 live foals in his first crop he produced 15 runners for 11 winners including G1 winner GRAND JOURNEY (WATC Derby [G1[), as well as dual G2 winner SOUND JOURNEY (MVRC Alistair Clark Stakes [G2]; Crystl Mile [G2]). GOOD JOURNEY has, since 2008, been a resident of Cornerstone Stud and also shuttles to the USA where he has produced a further Stakes winner and two Stakes placegetters.

RACE THE HEART, the dam of this gelding, is a ¾ sister to G1 SAJC South Australian Derby winner CHEVIOT and was herself a dual city winner for trainer Trent Pennuto and Clanbrooke Racing back in the early 2000’s. At stud, she has 1 winner from 1 to race. Second dam, CERRAQUITA, boasts a perfect 5 - 5 record at stud. Her winners include CHEVIOT (see above) and dual city winning Salquita. Third dam, MEMPHIS, also won twice in town.

GOOD JOURNEY covered 116 mares in his first Season at Cornerstone Stud, only slightly less than he had covered in his entire career to that point. This gelding is from that crop, the 2YO’s of season 2011-12. A pedigree with good running depth and a lovely correct horse to boot, come join this winning combination.

2009 Oratorio x Academia Colt 2 year old Bay Colt

2009 Oratorio x Academia Colt

Bay colt by triple G1 winning Coolmore Stallion

                           ORATORIO (IRE)

A son of DANEHILL, ORATORIO was a G1 winning juvenile (Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere [G1] in record time) and Champion 2YO Colt in France with 3 Stakes wins under his belt. Training on as a 3YO to match it with the best in Europe, ORATORIO beat English Derby winner MOTIVATOR twice at the highest level (Eclipse S. [G1]; Irish Champion S.[G1]), finishing his racing career with 3 x G1 victories and a further 4 x G1 placings to his name.
The UK’s Leading First Season sire in 2009, this Coolmore shuttler is not to be confused with the WA-based sire of the same name. ORATORIO’s (IRE) oldest progeny now 4YO’s, his first crop hit the ground running, recording his first Stakes success in the G1 Dewhurst S. with both 1st (BEETHOVEN) and 2nd (FENCING MASTER) past the post, the first sire to celebrate such an achievement since the late, great SADLER’S WELLS.

ORATORIO’s first Australian crop include NZ’s BANCHEE, winner of the G1 Diamond S. On home turf, MANAWANUI became the 14th Stakes winner and first Australian G1 winner for ORATORIO when he claimed victory in the Golden Rose on 10th September. He cemented his credentials as a $7 Caulfield Guineas prospect when winning decisively by 2L at his next start (Stan Fox S. [G2]). MANAWANUI joins TORIO’S QUEST (Qld Guineas [G2] 1600m), a 2011 Cox Plate hopeful, MOURINHO (Tasmanian Derby [G3] 2200m) and UPSALA (Whangarei Breeders’ S. [L]), all carrying the torch for ORATORIO in the Southern hemisphere.

ACADEMIA, the unraced dam of this colt, is by Mark of Esteem. At stud, she has produced 2 winners to date whilst her 4YO ELVSTROEM mare is just getting going now and a 3YO DASH FOR CASH colt is about to hit the track. Second dam, LEGEND OF ARABIA, also unraced, boasts a perfect record at stud. Her six winners all won in town, four of them at distances over 2000m, and 2 placed at Stakes level incl. Edbaysaan (3rd Doncaster St Leger [G1]). Third dam is the triple G1 winning racemare FAIR SALINIA (Epsom Oaks [G1]; Irish Oaks [G1]; York Yorkshire Oaks [G1]). Three of her 7 winning progeny were Stakes winner’s incl. PERFECT CIRCLE who also ran 5th in the G1 Newmarket 1000 Guineas.

ORATORIO is shaping as a versatile young Stallion, recording exceptional early results in both hemispheres over a bevy of distances to 2500m. UPSALA, one of ORATORIO’s 2YO NZ Stakes performers, is also out of a Mark of Esteem mare. This cross works and this fellow has the athleticism and conformation to back up a great running pedigree. Boasting a G1 winner (MANUWANUI - Golden Rose) and G2 placegetter (TORIO'S QUEST - 2d. Sebring Sprint) on the same day, his progeny are certainly making waves.

2010 Sinndar x Shamsada Colt 1 year old Bay Colt

2010 Sinndar x Shamsada Colt

2YO Colt (turned 2 January 1, 2012) by Champion 3YO in Europe and now Aga Khan stallion

NOTE: The colt is now nominated for the 2013 English Derby.

                            SINNDAR

European bred and trained horses have a terrific record on our turf in this nation’s greatest staying race, the G1 Melbourne Cup. This is a plan to tap into some of the best French staying blood, train initially in Europe to keep expenses down, and then if successful,  transfer the colt to Melbourne for a genuine attempt at the 2015 Melbourne Cup.

SINNDAR’s race record is truly remarkable. Winning 7 of his 8 career starts, all but his first at Stakes level, he was a G1 winner at 2 and triple G1 winner at 3 (Derby Stakes [G1] (2800m); Irish Derby [G1] (2400m) and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe [G1] (2400m)), the only horse in history to boast the treble.

Retired to stud at 3 before the 2001 breeding season, SINNDAR was the sire of 53% runners-winners from his first French crop that also incorporated 20 Stakes horses.  He created another first when three of his progeny topped International yearling sales. This year, daughter SHARETA, a 3/4 sister to our colt, was runner up in the most prestigious staying event in Europe, the Prix de I'Arc de Triomphe [G1].

Of his 17 Stakes winners to date, 3 have been victorious at the highest level. SHAWANDA (closely related to this colt – see below) was a dual G1 winner (Prix Vermeille [G1]; Irish Oaks S.[G1]),  YOUMZAIN also won twice at G1 level (Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud [G1]; Preis Von Europa [G1] and was also runner up in the prestigious Arc on two occasions, whilst ROSANARA won the G1 2YO Prix Marcel Boussac [G1], the only French race exclusively for 2YO fillies.

The dam of our colt is SHAMSADA, a lightly raced mare whose first foal to the races has already won her first race. Second dam, Shamawna won twice in her home country (Fr.) and was also Stakes placed (Prix de Royaumont [G3]). She boasts four winners including 2005 Champion 3YO filly in Ireland and dual G1 winning SHAWANDA, the product of a mating between 2nd dam Shamawna and the sire of our colt, SINNDAR. SHAMSADA (dam of our colt) and SHAWANDA are full sisters and our colt is a ¾ brother to SHAWANDA.

There is plenty of black type going back another couple of generations in this colt’s pedigree but at the risk of confusing (due to the conspicuous naming of all Aga Khan progeny), it is perhaps best to have a look at the pedigree itself.

Our colt bears a physical resemblance to SINNDAR himself, both bearing the two white feet, blaze and dark markings. SINNDAR has already proven himself to be a sire of classic winners and both the sire and dam of our colt were bred by the Aga Khan studs and represent outstanding European staying blood.

There’s a lot to like about him. His pedigree is outstanding, he looks correct, and has a cracking walk.” Roger Varian, former jockey and assistant trainer to Michael Jarvis.

Going the Distance

Foaled on 8th April, 2010, the colt is currently a Yearling and will be 2 on 1st January 2012. He is due to be broken in around August/September 2011 and will be brought into the stable for an initial prep. of 3-4 months around December. The initial few months in work will be largely for his education. Given his pedigree, it is unlikely that he will race until the second half of the Northern summer (winter in Australia) 2012, or even the Northern Autumn. He will not be pushed early and patience will be required. NOTE: The colt is now nominated for the 2013 English Derby.

The ultimate goal will be the 2015 Melbourne Cup. European horses have an advantage when nominating for the big race and have been extremely successful in the past – in 2009, 2 of the top 3 placegetters were European bred and trained whilst in 2010, 5 of the top 10 placegetters were from Europe.

If successful in our quest, prizemoney earned in Europe will be put towards transportation and entry fees. If things do not go to plan, our colt’s excellent pedigree should stand him in good stead for future breeding prospects. To that end, we will try to avoid gelding. However, his temperament and racing performance will be our guide.

If this sparks your interest, gather a group and tell your friends in London that you’ll be over for a visit.
